O2 plan guide

Everything O2 publishes about the plans sold with your phone: what each plan type includes, bolt-ons, roaming, charges outside your plan, fees and the upgrade, data rollover and Extras options. O2's own terms are the binding version.

Figures were taken from the network's own pages in October 2026 and can change. If anything here differs from the network's current document, the network's document applies.

Plans and what they include

O2 sells three plan types with a phone. Classic is the base plan, Plus adds travel and Switch Up, and Ultimate adds the widest roaming and the most Extras.

How the price works

  • Airtime plans increase by a fixed £2.50 a month each April (75p for data-only and smartwatch plans). The device plan stays the same. Out-of-bundle charges rise by 5% each 1 April.
  • A Pay Monthly plan needs a credit check and Direct Debit. Minimum periods are usually 12, 18 or 24 months, or 30 days for rolling plans.
  • With O2 Refresh your device plan is a separate Consumer Credit Agreement from a 30-day rolling airtime plan, so you can upgrade as soon as the device plan is paid off, or pay it off early.
  • Flexible tariffs: on O2 Refresh tariffs you can move up or down to other tariffs available on your phone, once each billing month, 30 days after you receive it. You can lose benefits such as Switch Up, Free Screen Replacement or Loss and Theft cover if you move to a plan that does not include them.
  • Unlimited data plans are subject to the O2 Unlimited tariff terms and the Fair Usage Policy.

Bolt Ons and Extras

Bolt Ons are added in My O2 or by text after you join.

Data Bolt Ons

A one-off payment gives data for the UK and Europe Zone. A Bolt On starts the day you buy it and lasts over 30 days.

If you have a Spend Cap, the price of the Travel, International and Satellite Bolt Ons is not counted in it.

Data roaming Bolt Ons (outside Europe Zone)

Without an O2 Travel Bolt On, data outside the Europe Zone stops unless you buy a fixed allowance. Calls outside Europe cost £3 a minute and a text £1. Unused Bolt On data rolls to the end of your next billing month.

Extras (Disney+, Amazon and more)

Pick an Extra when you start a Pay Monthly plan. You can add more later and pay for them on your bill. When you add selected Extras you get an airtime rebate.

Roaming

O2 is the only major network that does not charge for roaming in Europe on its Pay Monthly plans. Outside Europe it depends on your plan type or on a Bolt On.

Europe Zone (48 destinations)

  • Your minutes, texts and data work as at home, up to a 25GB roaming limit if your UK data is over 25GB. If your UK allowance is 25GB or less you can use all of it.
  • When you reach the limit or use up your allowance abroad you need to add a data Bolt On.
  • Roaming is for occasional travel. Using inclusive roaming for more than 63 days in any four-month period is treated as unfair use: after a text warning you pay £3.50 per GB, 3.3p a minute and 1p a text, until most of your usage over the previous four months is in the UK.
  • Roaming in the Europe Zone is for phones; Pay Monthly SIMs for tablets work in the UK only.

  • You can change tariff during your minimum period to a plan with the same or higher monthly charge. Moving to a lower plan means cancelling, and a fee may apply.
  • On a 30-day rolling plan you can give 30 days' notice at any time; you pay the normal monthly charge until the notice ends.
  • Your data allowance is not carried forward unless you have data rollover. Changing tariff loses any unused allowance.
  • You may not use your service for numbers that are call forwarding, paging, onward calling or revenue-share services.

Upgrades, Switch Up and rollover

How you move to a new phone and keep your data.

O2 Switch Up (Plus and Ultimate)

Swap your phone for a new one every 11 months. It does not matter how long you have left on your current contract: O2 pays it off. Switch Up can be added to a Classic plan for £6.99 a month.

Upgrading

On O2 Refresh you can pay off your Device Plan whenever you like and upgrade straight away. Standard delivery is free; premium delivery is £9.99. Order by midnight for next working day delivery to non-remote locations, or collect in store the same day depending on stock.

Data rollover (Plus and Ultimate)

  • Any unused data from your main allowance rolls into the next billing month automatically, with no cap, except on Unlimited plans.
  • Rolled-over data lasts one billing month and can only be used in the UK. Your main data is used first, then rolled-over data.
  • Rolled-over data cannot be rolled again. For example on a 50GB plan the most you can roll is 50GB.
  • If you move from a Plus or Ultimate plan to Classic you lose rollover as an ongoing benefit.

O2 Priority and Recycle

Priority gives O2 customers offers, prizes and tickets. O2 Recycle gives you cash or credit for an old device when you buy a new one.

Fair usage

O2 limits Unlimited plans by the O2 Unlimited tariff terms: tethering to 12 or more devices, using 650GB twice in six months, or using non-eligible devices may lead to your plan being moved. Read the full Fair Usage Policy in the policies hub.
